Resource Specialist- Beaufort Area

Posted: 04/10/2024

Who we are:
Palmetto Project is a statewide non-profit organization that supports innovative strategies to address the social and economic challenges facing our state, and put them into action. One of our focus areas is access to quality, affordable, preventive, primary, and specialty health care services.
The Insure SC initiative is an insurance hub where every South Carolina resident can access information about health coverage options including Medicaid, Medicare, Marketplace, and private insurance. All services are free. It is the first nonprofit insurance agency in South Carolina, and the second in the nation.
As a Resource Specialist in Beaufort County, you’ll work directly with consumers to provide health insurance education, outreach, enrollment, and post-enrollment assistance. You will become a fully licensed insurance agent, able to enroll South Carolinians in health insurance such as Medicare, ACA Marketplace, Off-Marketplace, short-term, vision, dental, small group, association, and travel coverage. You’ll receive training and mentoring to refer consumers to coverage gap services, savings programs, and community resources, and provide application assistance for such programs as needed.

What you need to bring:
- Passion for helping South Carolinians get the most health from their health insurance coverage.
- Commitment to respond professionally and calmly to complex and challenging situations.
- Discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
- Understanding of what needs to be done for whom by when (prioritizing and organizing).
- Ease using multiple web-based platforms for enrollment, data management and reporting, service referrals, scheduling, and communication.
- Motivated by an innate desire to be part of the solution.

What you need to know:
- We acknowledge that racism underpins our state’s biggest challenges.
- We embrace and encourage differences that make our staff unique.
- We encourage staff contributions to the communities we serve to promote a greater understanding and respect for the diversity that makes our communities thrive.
- We cover all of your in-person classroom training and licensing costs. We also cover the cost of continuing education, licensure, and errors and omissions insurance.
- There’s no cold calling consumers -- ever! Our greatest referral source is our highly satisfied consumers and community partners.
- This is a salaried position, so there’s never worries about commission income fluctuations.
While the position is full-time, the hours are flexible. We want all of our staff to strive for a fulfilling work-life balance. Outreach events mean that there will be some weekend hours, but that frees you up during the week for medical appointments, caregiving needs, or time to pursue your personal interests and community service obligations.
- Your home will be your main worksite, but by establishing community partnerships, you may eventually schedule office hours at community-based locations such as county libraries, other non-profit organizations, and houses of faith. Depending on your level of comfort, you can also assist clients in their own home if they face transportation obstacles or have mobility impairments.

We take care of our team! We offer:
- Competitive salaries, team bonuses, and benefits.
- Flexible paid time off. You don’t have to work here for a decade before you “earn” enough time to cover your dream vacay.
- 11 paid holidays a year
- Platinum level employee health insurance with low out-of-pocket costs; dental, vision, and life insurance included at no additional cost.
- Mileage reimbursement for travel
